“The Best Of Both Worlds”
The British National Curriculum gives our learners academic rigour and global recognition. The Montessori method nurtures their curiosity and confidence to apply this knowledge.
This approach enables our students to develop their natural curiosity and desire to learn, alongside important self-actualisation skills and independent study habits that will stay with them well beyond school.
What we teach matters—but who your child becomes here matters even more.

Key Stage 1: Years 1 – 2 (ages 5-7)
Key Stage 1 follows a thematic, creative curriculum blending Montessori heritage with English National Curriculum objectives. This approach supports natural curiosity and individual needs, allowing students to work in depth while reflecting on and consolidating their learning.
Teachers use hands-on experiences and high-quality Montessori materials to develop children’s thinking within meaningful contexts. Direct experience remains central to the curriculum, ensuring that students’ capacities are nurtured through interactive engagement.
Digital literacy is also prioritised. Learners build confidence in computing by using Chromebooks and various software programs to enrich their digital education.
To monitor progress, we benchmark achievements against expected standards. This includes Phonics in Year 1, plus Mathematics, Reading, and SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar) in Year 2. Standardised assessment tests provide vital data to inform future learning and ensure each child meets key milestones. This combination of creative exploration and academic benchmarking prepares students for their continuing educational journey.
Key Stage 2: Years 3 – 6 (ages 7 – 11)
In Key Stage 2, MLC Primary follows the English Primary Curriculum, enhanced by hands-on learning and high-quality Montessori materials. This tailored approach ensures each child reaches their full potential through unique, individualised guidance. As students progress, the curriculum fosters increasing independence and problem-solving skills, both in academics and daily school life.
The Montessori-inspired environment allows teachers to deliver a diverse curriculum. Beyond core subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science, students explore French, Kiswahili, Computer Studies, Art, Drama, Music, and Food and Nutrition—often taught by specialist Secondary School staff. Termly themes create cross-curricular links, encouraging teamwork and independent projects.
Achievement is benchmarked through Year 6 standardised assessments, which inform future learning paths. Year 6 students also celebrate their transition with an Ascension Ceremony and take on leadership roles such as House Captains, School Council Representatives, and Eco-Team members.
Learning extends beyond the classroom with a robust trip programme. This includes residential field trips like climbing Mount Longonot and visiting Lake Elementaita, as well as educational visits to the Nairobi Planetarium, National Museum, and various local science and history landmarks.
Discover What Makes Our Primary School Special
Great education isn’t one-size-fits-all. At MLC Primary, every child is taught as an individual—and encouraged to be their very best, academically, creatively, and personally. Our intentionally small class sizes ensure that no child is ever just a number. Every learner is seen, challenged, and celebrated.
